Gabriela Pilar Newkirk is a fine artist and muralist from Austin, Texas. While obtaining her BFA in Studio Art she has created work for clients all over Texas and Colorado. Gabriela’s specialties include still life, landscapes, portraiture and corporate branding murals. Her goal as an artist is to create work with a sense of familiarity to place emphasis on the subtle beauty of everyday life. Gabriela has created murals and commissioned paintings in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Marcos, Mission, Round Rock, Hutto, and Colorado Springs. 

Gabriela took the leap into a career in fine arts after losing her brother unexpectedly in 2021. Learning to find joy amongst grief helped her develop the foundational theme in her work of finding beauty in everyday life. Her early work has reflected this in subject matter and the trajectory of her style development. She fell in love with still life and landscapes as evidence of life and considers this theme to be the basis of her artistic purpose and voice moving forward.

In 2019 Gabriela completed her first commissioned mural. In the years since that first project she has planned and executed over 20 murals all over Texas and Colorado. Public art fuels her passion as a creator and jump started her career in the arts. The process of working with individuals and companies has given Gabriela the opportunity to listen and understand the specific needs and limitations of each project. Building this facet of her freelance career has offered her a wealth of experience regarding detailed proposal writing, marketing and business management. 

Gabriela has shown work in small businesses and public event centers such as Cypress Creek Coffee House and Skybox on 6th. She shows work as a part of Austin Studio Tour every year as well as other farmer’s markets and art fairs. In 2022, Gabriela worked with an Austin-area Air Bnb host to create a themed artist cottage complete with murals and related design elements. Her mission continues to focus on getting work out there as her career takes off

Gabriela’s goals as an artist include acquiring gallery representation, solo and group exhibitions, publishing art print books and journals, artist residencies and traveling more within her practice as an artist.
